On Working Slowly

There is a particular kind of relief in doing one thing at a time. Not because speed is bad, but because most speed is borrowed — from attention you needed somewhere else.

I used to treat a slow week as a failure. Now I treat it as information: a sign I was building something that mattered enough to be careful with.

The work that lasts is rarely the work that moved fastest. It is the work someone returned to and adjusted, quietly, over a long time.
